To Know About Poems" workshop.  Todd combines humour and a sense of craft,
to get new poets writing, and experienced poets to get more from their work.

short reading afterwards, by Todd, and some refreshments.

Saturday 27th September

Nature walk and haiku poetry workshop at Chafford Gorges Visitor Centre, led by award-winning poets John Barlow and Matthew Paul. The workshop will explore various ways of writing haiku in English and will feature several group activities. Participants will be encouraged to write haiku on the day, and there will be the opportunity to discuss these, or haiku you may already have written, both in a group context and/or one-to-one with the poets. Whilst concentrating on haiku, the workshop may also touch upon related poetic forms such as tanka and haibun. Suitable for all ages and abilities - from those completely new to haiku to more experienced writers.

Tuesday 30 September - The Poem as Dialogue
with Philip Wilson
This workshop examines how a poem can show and not tell by entering into dialogue with its audience and with other poems.  Examples will be given from contemporary poetry and participants will be able to write a poem in dialogue, which they will then be invited to present to the group.  Poetry collections from Colchester Library will be available for use

Friday 3rd October - Finding Inspiration In Your Library

Your local library contains something to spark every imagination – from thrillers to art books to classic works of fiction and non-fiction, as well as Internet access to special collections all around the world. It even has a few poetry collections! In this workshop, we will write poems inspired by materials in the Brentwood Library and poet Anne Welsh will share some of the tricks of her daytime trade as a professional librarian in tracking down fresh inspiration through physical and online libraries in Essex and beyond.

Estill Pollock will moderate a discussion group at Wivenhoe Library. Participants are invited to submit up to six original poems. Selected poems will be discussed anonymously by the group, to share thoughts and opinons about the art of poetry-writing.
